Sharjah 24: As part of its commitment to strengthening national identity and connecting younger generations to the rich heritage of the UAE, the Summer Activities Department at Al Dhaid Cultural and Sports Club organised a special heritage visit to the historic Al Naboodah House, located in the heart of Sharjah.

The visit was held within the framework of the "Sharjah Summer Sports – Our Holiday is Different" programme, specifically during the "Here is Sharjah" week. A group of summer programme participants took part in the visit, including a number of people with disabilities, who embarked on a culturally and humanly enriching exploration.

Discovering a Unique Architectural Gem

During the visit, participants were introduced to the house’s unique architectural style. Considered one of the most prominent architectural masterpieces of old Sharjah, the house features intricate design details that reflect the brilliance of traditional Emirati construction. This includes elaborately carved wooden doors and windows, Roman-style marble columns, and a traditional wind-tower ventilation system that demonstrates a deep environmental understanding of the region’s needs at the time.

Immersive Cultural Experience

Participants also had the opportunity to explore the house’s interior décor and carefully restored rooms, which have been preserved to maintain their authenticity and historical elements. The immersive experience transported visitors back to the atmosphere of Emirati life in the late 19th century.

Exploring Al Naboodah Family Collection

Visitors stopped at the house’s indoor exhibition, where they were introduced to valuable artefacts belonging to Al Naboodah family. These included old coins, pearl measuring tools, interactive display screens, and a short film documenting the history of the pearl trade in the Arabian Gulf. This added an educational and documentary dimension to the visit, enriching participants’ understanding of the deep roots of Emirati identity.

Affirming the Cultural Mission

At the conclusion of the visit, His Excellency Salem Mohammed bin Howaiden Al Ketbi, Chairman of Al Dhaid Club’s Board of Directors, expressed the importance of such initiatives. He affirmed that heritage visits provide a platform for summer, cultural, and social engagement, and serve an educational purpose aimed at instilling pride in Emirati identity and introducing the youth to the richness of their history. He also noted that including people with disabilities in the visit reflects the club’s commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all its members.

Looking Ahead to More Quality Programmes

Al Ketbi stressed that Al Dhaid Club will continue organising such high-quality activities throughout the summer programme, turning the holiday into a comprehensive opportunity for entertainment and learning. These efforts aim to connect new generations with the authenticity of the past and the spirit of the present, in line with Sharjah’s vision of nurturing a generation that is proud of its identity, aware of its heritage, and equipped to shape the future.
