Sharjah24: In line with its ongoing commitment to enhance the efficiency of its healthcare facilities and develop advanced specialised services, the Emirates Health Services Foundation announced that the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit at Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah achieved remarkable results in the first quarter of 2025. This included performing 425 advanced endoscopy procedures and receiving 387 patients, along with hosting two visiting doctors from top global specialists in gastroenterology.

Global Expertise Emphasised

Dr. Noor Al Muhairi, Director of the Visiting Doctors Programme at the Emirates Health Services (EHS), confirmed that attracting global medical talents is a key pillar of the foundation’s strategy to develop specialised fields. She added, “Through the visiting doctors program, we aim to transfer the latest medical knowledge to our healthcare institutions and enable our staff to learn directly from leading global experts, which positively reflects on the quality of services provided and helps establish the country as a regional center for advanced specialized care.”

Infrastructure Improvements Noted

Afra Salem, Director of Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah, explained that the hospital's outstanding results are a result of continuous institutional support for the development of medical infrastructure. She stated, “The gastrointestinal endoscopy services at the hospital are experiencing notable success, thanks to recent updates to the unit, including the provision of the latest AI-based technologies, which have enabled the medical team to handle complex cases with high precision and efficiency, opening new horizons for treatment.”

Advanced Technology Introduced

Recently, the endoscopy unit at the hospital underwent comprehensive upgrades, including the addition of the first-of-its-kind endoscopic tumor resection device within the foundation’s facilities, as well as the latest advanced AI-based medical devices for gastric and colon endoscopy. This has contributed to elevating the level of services provided to patients and expanding the range of advanced procedures in diagnosis and treatment, in line with the foundation’s plan to enhance the efficiency of its healthcare facilities and offer treatment services according to the highest global standards.

Visiting Doctors Program

The hospital also hosted Dr. Sunil Mathai, a gastroenterology consultant from Medical Trust Hospital in India, and Dr. Peter Tagalidies, a gastroenterology specialist from Royal Melbourne Hospital in Australia, as part of the visiting doctors program. During their visit, the doctors performed 78 advanced endoscopy procedures, including endoscopy of the biliary ducts, stomach, and colon, endoscopic ultrasound, and coil implantation within gastric varices, as well as sleeve gastrectomy and partial resections using the latest therapeutic endoscopy techniques.
