Al Naqbi stated that several members raised questions regarding the Authority’s policy, highlighting the Council's interest in supporting the airport’s continued success. One of the key points raised was a proposal to conduct a full feasibility study on building a new international airport in another part of the emirate. This would be a long-term strategic move to address potential limitations in future capacity and the impact of surrounding urban development.
Speaking to “Sharjah24”, Al Naqbi explained that members also questioned the economic, technical, and logistical reasons for prioritizing expansion of the current airport over constructing a new one. He inquired whether a comprehensive impact study had been carried out for both options, adding that a new airport could present an opportunity to establish an integrated airport city, enhancing Sharjah’s position in economic, tourism, and logistics sectors, and elevating the travel experience to global standards.
