Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Camel Racing Club hosted a series of thrilling competitions on Saturday as part of its weaning camel race series, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. The event drew a large crowd of camel owners and enthusiasts, with the camel “Shawaheen” achieving the fastest time of the day.

16 competitive rounds

The race programme featured 16 rounds dedicated to the weaning age category, spanning a distance of 1,500 meters. These included eight rounds for female camels from Al Dhaid, four challenging rounds exclusive to Al Dhaid residents, and four open rounds, showcasing a range of young racing talent.

Celebrating Arab heritage

His Excellency Abdullah Mohammed Mu'adhd bin Huwaiden Al Ketbi, Chairman of the Sharjah Camel Racing Club, highlighted the cultural importance of camel racing as a cherished Arab tradition. He praised the unwavering support of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah in preserving this heritage through year-round sponsorship of camel racing events.

Al Ketbi noted that the "weaning age" races, held through a direct grant from His Highness, play a vital role in passing on the values and traditions of this historic sport to younger generations, ensuring its continuity and cultural significance.
