Sharjah 24: As part of its ongoing efforts to conserve fisheries and enhance knowledge about the marine environment, the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority (SFRA) organised an interactive workshop at its headquarters.

The workshop targeted students from the Sharjah School of Applied Technology, along with a number of students from the University of Sharjah. These workshops, which the Authority is keen to organise, are part of a series of initiatives aimed at spreading environmental and cultural awareness and educating younger generations about the importance of marine resources and ways to preserve them.

Immersive museum tour and marine life experience

The event began with a tour of the Authority's Maritime Museum, where students enjoyed a unique experience that harnessed modern technology to transport them to the heart of the ocean. Advanced displays depicted live scenes from the depths of the sea, showcasing the diversity and beauty of marine life in a realistic natural environment. The museum's collections, including traditional fishing tools and stuffed fish models, were also introduced to the history of fishing in the region.

Introduction to fish farming and classification

The students were also introduced to the concept of fish farming through a live model at the Authority's headquarters featuring various species of local fish. In addition, a presentation was given on fish classification and the importance of fish farms in supporting fish stocks and reducing pressure on natural marine environments.

Leadership remarks and focus on innovation

His Excellency Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazin, Chairman of the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority, expressed his happiness and welcomed the students to the Authority's headquarters. He added that such events play an important role in spreading environmental awareness and enhancing cooperation with various educational institutions to consolidate the importance of fisheries as an essential part of food security and the UAE's cultural heritage. He went on to stress that innovation is an integral part of the Authority's development, as it seeks to communicate environmental concepts in modern, interactive ways that contribute to enhancing student and community awareness.

Student engagement and interactive activities

The workshop concluded with positive student engagement, through interactive competitions that contributed to opening new horizons for fisheries conservation and its role in maintaining ecological balance, amid praise for the Authority's role in raising environmental awareness and sustaining marine life.
