Its efforts in 2024 resulted in 10,426 samples tested in water and desalination plant laboratories, in addition to 8,383 samples tested in the main water quality laboratory.
This is part of the authority's commitment to providing high-quality water to subscribers.
High-quality drinking water meeting WHO standards
Engineer Abdulrahman Bukhalaf, Director of the Water and Desalination Plants Department, confirmed that SEWA utilises its technical and operational capabilities to consistently provide subscribers with high-quality drinking water that meets WHO standards.
Bukhalaf added that the authority is also keen to keep pace with scientific advances in water testing to ensure high-quality water. He explained that SEWA relies on seven laboratories, including a water quality laboratory in the Halwan area and six technical laboratories at stations, to monitor and maintain water quality from the beginning of desalination until it reaches subscribers.
The laboratories are equipped with the latest equipment and qualified personnel to monitor water testing and ensure its quality and freshness in all areas of the Emirate of Sharjah around the clock.
Bukhalaf stated that SEWA continues to develop the performance of laboratories and enhance their efficiency in an effort to meet all the requirements and conditions of the Quality Management System and update the laboratory information management system, contributing to the activation of work monitoring mechanisms, storing data related to test results, and sending information to all relevant authorities in a timely manner.
Keeping pace with the urban development
Bukhalaf emphasised that SEWA is constantly keeping pace with the urban development and expansion of the Emirate of Sharjah. Therefore, the number of sample testing sites in the Sharjah City network has been increased, bringing the total number of sites to 71, with the aim of continuously monitoring water quality in the network. He pointed out that the Authority has provided several channels for receiving any comments regarding water quality at the laboratory, including direct contact with the Water Quality Department or contacting the Authority's call center at 600566665.
Bukhalaf urged the public, companies, and relevant entities to contact the Authority if they have any comments related to water quality, so that specialised technicians can be dispatched to take the required samples, examine them, and take all necessary measures.
