The MoU was signed on the sidelines of the 2nd International Conference on Civilisational Dialogue and Tolerance, held in Abu Dhabi under the theme "Empowering Youth for a Tolerant Future". The event brought together a distinguished group of officials, academics, and researchers from around the world.
Representing ICESCO, H.E. Salem Omar Salem, Director of the Regional Office in Sharjah, signed the agreement, while Dr. Firas Habbal, president of ESRC and Vice Chairman of its Board of Trustees, signed on behalf of the centre. Dr Habbal highlighted that this partnership reflects the centre’s commitment to advancing scientific research and innovation through collaboration with leading international organisations. He emphasised that the MoU will create new opportunities for academic cooperation and support research initiatives that promote dialogue and mutual understanding.
This agreement underscores the UAE’s and Sharjah’s leading role in supporting international efforts to advance scientific research and tolerance. It also reflects ICESCO’s commitment to enhancing higher education and research while empowering academic institutions to develop solutions to global challenges in line with rapid scientific and technological transformations.
H.E. Salem Omar Salem stated that signing the MoU aligns with the regional office’s mission to foster scientific research, innovation, and collaboration with top academic institutions. He described the partnership as a significant step towards knowledge integration, enabling the exchange of expertise and the development of joint research initiatives to tackle global challenges.
He further emphasised that ICESCO believes in the power of science to promote dialogue and tolerance, shaping a future that fosters mutual understanding among Islamic nations and beyond in the fields of education, science, and culture.
