The Perfume Industry between History and Heritage symposium, held during the Sharjah Heritage Days, provided an insightful platform for experts in the perfume industry, including Aisha Bin Huwaireb, Shamma Eid Al Tayer, and Hamda Al Zarouni. The event was hosted by Aisha Ghabbash in a fragrant environment filled with various perfumes, offering attendees a direct experience of the scents that define the culture.
The seminar addressed two main questions: How can the history of Emirati perfumes be documented? And what are the challenges faced by the local perfume industry? Aisha Bin Huwaireb emphasised that perfume is an integral part of human life and that the Emirati perfume industry has successfully preserved its roots.
Shamma Al Tayer discussed the challenges, such as limited natural resources and the decline in craftsmanship among younger generations due to the dominance of imported perfumes.
Hamda Al Zarouni explored the cultural and physiological importance of perfume, showcasing its role in language, mood improvement, and the significance of various aromatic substances like musk and frankincense.
