Dr Abdul Aziz Al Musallam, President of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, highlighted that the institute’s new national accreditation is proof of its commitment to providing excellent education in the cultural field. This training aims to prepare skilled professionals who can bring fresh ideas and abilities to the sector.
He explained, "This diploma is part of a larger effort to build the skills needed to improve cultural and museum organizations, focusing on areas like management, promotion, and innovation. We believe that preserving our heritage is not just about keeping records, but also about managing it in ways that keep it relevant and vibrant in our society."
Dr Khaled Al Shehhi, the Academic Director of the SIH, highlighted the importance of recent accreditation as a key part of their educational approach. He explained, "We have created a curriculum that aligns with the best practices around the world, focusing on important topics like digital transformation and the variety of audiences we serve. Soon, we will introduce a diploma in popular culture and a program in architectural heritage. These new offerings are part of our goal to broaden the areas we specialize in and to train professionals who can help foster sustainable cultural growth in our country."
The program lasts for two years and is divided into four semesters. It focuses on four main areas: planning for cultural institutions and museums, managing festivals and events, marketing culture online, and enhancing visitors' experiences.
Students will learn both the theory behind these topics and gain hands-on experience. They will have the opportunity to work with various museums, cultural centers, and large festivals. This practical exposure helps them understand what it’s like to work in these fields and allows them to build valuable professional connections.
The program has received official recognition thanks to the teamwork of different departments and centres within the institute. They have worked together to create a strong educational framework, develop training materials, and meet the necessary national standards for accreditation. This accomplishment showcases the institute's dedication to nurturing skilled leaders in the UAE who can help protect and promote the country’s rich cultural heritage, using the best practices from around the world.
