Sharjah 24: The Arthritis Patients' Friends Association, a health support organisation under the Sharjah Health Promotion Department of the Sharjah Supreme Council for Family Affairs, celebrated its 12th annual marathon on Sunday evening. The event, themed "Movement is Life, and Life is Movement," saw the participation of more than 6,000 competitors from diverse age groups and nationalities.

Community involvement
Wahida Abdul Aziz, President of the Arthritis Patients' Friends Association, conveyed her happiness at the remarkable public response. She highlighted the association's dedication to organising the marathon each year in accordance with the directives of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs. Her remarks emphasised the significance of creating a healthy environment and offering support to patients in Sharjah, thus enhancing public awareness of arthritis and aiding those who encounter daily challenges in achieving a fulfilling life.

Partnership
Wahida Abdul Aziz praised the significant collaboration offered by various government institutions and private companies for the marathon. She specifically recognised the strategic partner, Sharjah Sports Council, the golden sponsor, Fast Construction Contracting Company, and the silver sponsor, Sharjah Media City (Shams), along with other supporting sponsors such as the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, Sharjah Asset Management, the Sharjah Private Education Authority, University Hospital, and the Ministry of Health and Prevention. Without these sponsors and contributors, the marathon would not have been successful, she said.

Awarding winners
At the end of the race, Wahida Abdul Aziz celebrated the marathon winners by announcing the champions across the five organised tracks while also acknowledging the partners and cooperating institutions. The marathon included five distinct tracks, each designated for different age groups and physical abilities of the participants: a one-kilometre walk, a 2.5-kilometre run, a 5-kilometre run, a 10-kilometre run, and culminating in a 21-kilometre run.
