Sharjah24: The Friends of Arthritis Patients (FAP) has announced the 12th edition of its annual marathon, set to take place on Sunday, February 9, at Al Mamzar Beach in Sharjah. The event aims to promote physical activity among community members and raise awareness about arthritis and preventive measures. At a recent press conference at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, Wahida Abdulaziz, Chairperson of the Friends of Arthritis Patients Association, announced that preparations are in full swing for the marathon, recognised as one of the Association’s most significant events.

Objectives for Community Engagement

The marathon aims to attract more than 5,000 participants, promoting physical activity and emphasising the significance of staying active to combat rheumatic diseases. A major sports and wellness initiative will unite athletes, health advocates, and community members.

Marathon Includes Five Distinct Categories

Wahida Abdulaziz, President of the Friends of Arthritis Patients Society, delivered an exclusive statement to Sharjah 24, announcing that the marathon features five race categories: 21 km, 10 km, 5 km, 2.5 km, and a 1 km walking category available to the general public. It also promotes broad engagement, enabling every community member to participate and gain from the event.

Encouraging a Healthy Way of Life

Wahida Abdulaziz highlighted that the annual marathon is designed to promote preventive healthcare and inspire individuals to embrace a healthier lifestyle. The event aims to highlight the dangers of chronic diseases, encouraging increased involvement from the community. She called on everyone in the community to participate in the marathon and benefit from the educational and awareness activities that will be held alongside the event.

An Anticipated Attendance of 5,000 Participants

Wahida Abdulaziz noted that the inaugural edition of the marathon took place in 2013, featuring 300 participants. The 12th edition is set to build on its success and rising participation, with a goal of attracting more than 5,000 participants. This reflects an increasing awareness of the vital role physical activity plays in preventing joint diseases.
