UOS hosts 13th International Students’ Dental Conference

Sharjah 24: His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah (UOS), inaugurated the 13th International Students’ Dental Conference (ISDC). Organised by the UOS Dental Students Association, the two-day conference took place at the university's medical colleges and Dental Hospital.

The event brought together professionals, researchers, and students from 30 countries to discuss recent advancements and trends in dental education and practice.

Opening address and gratitude to key figures

The inauguration began with the national anthem and a recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an. Prof. Qutayba Hamid, Vice Chancellor for Medical and Health Sciences, expressed gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, President of the UOS for their continued support of the University of Sharjah. Prof. Qutayba also thanked Prof. Al Naimiy for his presence and support.

Advancements in dentistry and networking opportunities

Prof. Qutayba emphasized the field's significant advancements and its role in oral health. The conference offered students and professionals opportunities to exchange experiences, learn about cutting-edge technologies, and hear from global experts. He highlighted the unique aspect of the event, noting that it was organized entirely by students and encouraged attendees to build international networks that will benefit them in their future careers.

Focus on education and technology

Prof. Sausan Al Kawas, Acting Dean of the College of Dentistry, discussed the conference's role in providing educational opportunities and training for students. She noted the event’s ability to bring together experts on topics like dental implants, digital orthodontics, and AI in medical education. Prof. Al Kawas emphasised the importance of engaging directly with experts to stay updated on the latest developments in the field.

Competitive events and academic exchange

The conference included debates between participating universities, including a competition between University of Sharjah and Mohammed Bin Rashid University students. There were also poster competitions and oral research sessions, promoting academic competition and knowledge exchange among students.

Lectures and presentations

The conference program featured six lectures, 15 workshops, and 15 research papers. Topics covered included fiber removal in root canal treatment, advanced jaw orthognathic surgery, ceramic veneer preparation, and AI in dental education. The final lecture focused on immediate implant placement in the aesthetic zone.

Closing ceremony and recognition

At the closing ceremony, speakers and sponsors were honored, and winners of the various competitions were recognized. The event was a successful platform for networking, education, and the exchange of ideas in the field of dentistry.
