4th Relay for Life begins at American University of Sharjah

Sharjah 24: Today, Saturday, Sharjah hosted the 4th Middle East edition of Relay for Life (RFL), the region's largest cancer awareness and fundraising walkathon. Organized by Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP), the event aimed to raise life-saving funds and foster greater cancer awareness under the theme ‘Worth Living’.

Prominent figures attend the opening ceremony

The opening ceremony took place at the American University of Sharjah, attended by notable figures including Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, and Sawsan Jafar, Chairperson of FOCP. Participants from various backgrounds committed to walking the track for 24 hours, symbolizing the continuous fight against cancer and the unwavering community support.

In his speech, Sheikh Fahim emphasized the community's values of solidarity, generosity, and collective action, stressing that no one in need should ever stand alone.

The power of unity and generosity

Sawsan Jafar highlighted the success of RFL since its introduction to the UAE in 2017, noting the impactful contributions of over 12,500 participants in raising awareness and supporting cancer patients and their families.

Themed laps and community engagement

The event featured various themed laps, such as the Relaxed Lap for connection and the Glow Lap, where participants illuminated the track with glow sticks, creating a cheerful atmosphere.

Relay for Life impact

Since its inception in 2017, Relay for Life in the UAE has engaged more than 10,000 participants, honored over 500 survivors, and lit more than 8,500 luminarias, reflecting the strength of community solidarity in the fight against cancer.
