Sharjah 24 – WAM: The 13th International Pharmacy and Medicine Conference (ICPM 2025), held at the Sharjah Research, Technology, and Innovation Park, revealed the establishment of three new pharmaceutical factories in Sharjah. These factories, a collaboration between national and international companies, have a combined investment value exceeding $84 million (308.7 million dirhams).

A Significant push for pharmaceutical investment

The agreements for the new factories were signed on the third day of the conference, marking a new phase of pharmaceutical investment in Sharjah and the UAE. The new factories will join an existing pharmaceutical plant in Sharjah, contributing to the region's growing pharmaceutical industry.

Specialisations of the new factories

The three factories will specialize in producing respiratory products, eye drops, antibiotic capsules, stomach medications, first aid materials, and more. Construction is already underway, with plans for completion by mid to late 2026.

Strategic support for the pharmaceutical sector

Dr. Munir Rayyan, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, highlighted the significance of these agreements in strengthening the pharmaceutical partnership between global companies and UAE-based factories, boosting the UAE's role in the regional pharmaceutical economy.

Global competitiveness and innovation

The new factories signal the UAE’s growing role in pharmaceutical innovation and its ability to compete globally in the health sector. One of the plants will focus on eye drops and respiratory products, powered by AI and advanced manufacturing technologies.

Details of the new factories

First Factory: With a $44 million investment, this factory will produce eye drops and respiratory products, utilizing cutting-edge technologies. Construction will be completed by late 2026.

Second Factory: A $35 million investment in a 10,000-square-foot space, this factory will produce antibiotic capsules and stomach medications. It will have a production capacity of 600 million capsules annually, with operations starting in 2026.

Third Factory: This $5 million factory will focus on first aid products. Construction will begin later this year, with completion expected early next year.

UAE: A hub for pharmaceutical innovation
