Khorfakkan Hospital raises awareness on Alzheimer’s patients

Sharjah 24: Dr. Abdullah Musa Al Balushi, Director of Khorfakkan Hospital, stressed the hospital’s keenness, which is affiliated with the Emirates Health Services, to provide support to its elderly patients, through many initiatives that it organises periodically.

Dialogue session

Al Balushi told “Sharjah 24” that the hospital organised a dialogue session on Tuesday at the Khorfakkan University headquarters, to raise awareness of ways to deal with elderly Alzheimer's patients, under the title "In Our House is an Elder".

He explained that the session, in which visiting physician Dr. Hamad Al Sinawi from the Sultanate of Oman spoke, addressed the concept of Alzheimer's disease, and some types of short-term and long-term memory impairment or loss. The speaker reviewed how to deal with elderly patients in some cases.

The director of Khorfakkan Hospital added that such lectures enhance the knowledge of clients about the physical and psychological health aspects of elderly patients, which facilitates how to deal with them in a safe and positive manner.

Initiative to support the elderly

Al Balushi added that the hospital’s initiatives to support the elderly continue in cooperation with the relevant authorities, such as the home delivery service for medicines and bedridden care services.

The hospital also recently launched the “Our Elders Are the Blessing of the Home” initiative, which aims to cancel the requirements for transfer from health centres and provide response time to obtain a medical examination appointment for the patient on the same day.
