This comes in accordance with the directives and visions of the wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, aimed at enhancing the Emirate’s efforts in health awareness and encouraging community members to follow healthy habits that preserve their health and safety, which draws happiness on their faces, and supports the Emirate’s efforts to be the first healthy city in the region and the world.
During 2024, the department and health-supporting associations were able to provide financial support worth about one and a half million dirhams to patients, in addition to organising more than 60 health initiatives and programmes and more than 90 awareness events and lectures, through which they aimed to deliver their health awareness messages to more than 120,000 people.
The Health Promotion Department succeeded in organising about 97 educational workshops and events targeting about 5,176 people, while the number of health and nutritional consultations during 2024 reached 253 consultations with a satisfaction rate of about 88.24%.
In a new achievement that is considered the first of its kind in the region, and aims to support the strategic goals of the Emirate of Sharjah as a healthy city, the department issued the integrated guide for the "Wazen" programme, to achieve healthy workplaces that support and enhance employee health, which included 12 standards that serve the surrounding work environment, prevention and reduction of occupational accidents, and improvement of the psychological and social work environment, and other health aspects, as the guide was distributed to more than 90 government institutions in the Emirate of Sharjah.
The management team also visited about 22 government institutions in the Emirate of Sharjah and 7 branches of institutions in the eastern and central regions within the activities of the Wazen programme. During these visits, data was collected and the health environment in the institutions was studied.
The Health Promoting Schools Programme witnessed the honouring of 32 schools from the public and private sectors, and 16 schools received the gold category rating after meeting a minimum of 90% of the standards, while 12 schools received the silver category rating after meeting a minimum of 80% of the standards. Four schools also received the bronze category rating. As for the Sahbaty programme, 25 young people were trained on the basics of public health to be health ambassadors among their peers by spreading health knowledge based on reliable sources. The participants’ satisfaction rate with the activities and workshop reached 93%. There was also an increase in the learning rate by 22.15%, and the knowledge rate increased after the programme ended to 73.98%.
As for the most prominent health event on the agenda of the Health Promotion Department’s initiatives, which is the 10th My Health Conference, it witnessed great successes during the year 2024, as the number of beneficiaries from the conference reached about 2,200 people, and witnessed the participation of more than 36 specialists from different countries of the world, and the number of events accompanying the conference reached about 22 events that varied between dialogue sessions, workshops, and inspiring dialogues.
The conference also recorded an increase in the learning rate from the Physical Activity for Chronic Diseases workshop by about 12%, an increase in the learning rate from the Work-Family Life Balance workshop by about 4.7%, and an increase in the learning rate for the conference sessions by about 2.2%, while the overall satisfaction rate with the conference activities reached 92.8%.

We confirm that the department continues its efforts to enhance health awareness, with a focus on launching innovative health initiatives and organising various awareness programmes that contribute to building a sustainable healthy society. The department also pays special attention to governance in its work, in addition to providing support to individuals and developing leadership, which contributes to enhancing its societal impact. Believing that continuous development is the basis for success, we are keen to keep pace with the latest methods in spreading health awareness, and enhancing the media resonance of our programmes and initiatives, so that our messages reach the largest possible segment of society, and leave a positive mark on the lives of individuals.”
It is worth noting that Friends of Kidney Patients Association has witnessed remarkable success within its pioneering partnership with the representative office of the Ministry of Health and Prevention in the campaign to prevent heat exhaustion and diseases, where an educational awareness lecture was presented in Urdu in Sharjah and its suburbs such as Al Hamriyah Cultural and Sports Club, Al Dhaid Cultural and Sports Club, Al Thiqah Club for the Disabled (Khorfakkan), Sharjah Sports Club, Cultural Palace and Sharjah Police Academy.
This was with the aim of raising their awareness of kidney diseases and ways to prevent them. Blood pressure and sugar tests were also conducted for 200 workers, in addition to the water campaign organised in cooperation with the Sharjah Police Academy and the Ministry of Health and Prevention, with the aim of raising awareness of the most important behaviours and methods that contribute to maintaining kidney safety among members of society in all their categories. The campaign witnessed many awareness activities and programmes.
The association also strengthened its strategic partnerships with governmental and private bodies and entities, most notably cooperation with the representative office of the Ministry of Health and Prevention, and the Friends of Patients Charity House through financial support that aims to provide therapeutic support to kidney patients in Sharjah at a cost of 200 thousand dirhams during the year 2024 and the HMS Medical Group, and NMC Hospital, where comprehensive support was provided by conducting examinations and cooperation in awareness programmes and campaigns and taking care of some cases of kidney patients, in addition to the partnership with the “Arab Communication Foundation for Advertising,” which contributes to attracting sponsorships and organising initiatives and events throughout the year to contribute to supporting the association in achieving its humanitarian goals for the benefit of society and kidney patients.
In terms of awareness the association launched the Healthy Kidneys Programme, which is an educational and awareness programme targeting school students and teachers, aiming to raise awareness and prevent kidney diseases. Through this programme, 641 male and female students and educational staff in schools and children's centres were targeted.
The Association also participated in World Kidney Day, aiming to raise awareness among community members by activating a number of awareness programmes and activities about kidney diseases and ways to prevent them, in addition to awareness lectures held in schools, and educational lectures that were allocated to students of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services. The activities also included a visit to the Sharjah Elderly Home to give an awareness lecture to employees, chat with the elderly, and provide blood pressure tests for attendees. The number of beneficiaries of this programme reached 550 people.
During 2024, the association launched the My Health in Ramadan programme, and 342 beneficiaries were targeted during the holy month of Ramadan. The association also took the initiative to share the Iftar meal with the elderly through the Khatar Al Dar initiative provided by the Social Services Department, in addition to launching the Nabd Al Khair initiative, which aims to provide financial support to kidney patients in need.
The number of beneficiaries of therapeutic support reached 44 patients in various emirates of the country, and the value of the support provided to them reached more than 600,000 dirhams, in addition to launching the Itmanan initiative, during which 50 kidney patients were visited in the dialysis departments at Fujairah Hospital and Seha Kidney Care in Abu Dhabi, in order to raise the morale of patients and listen to their needs. Souvenirs were also distributed to them to make them happy.
This is in addition to its participation in various festivals, events and exhibitions in the country, as well as international conferences and forums that contribute to enhancing its role at various levels.
The Friends of Arthritis Patients Association succeeded in organising about 25 awareness initiatives and events targeting more than 7,200 people, most notably the One Million Steps Marathon targeting private school students in the Emirate of Sharjah, which witnessed the participation of 300 contestants, and the scientific day coinciding with the marathon, in addition to organising a healthy nutrition workshop for rheumatism patients, and the eleventh annual marathon, which is one of the most important and prominent events of the association, which witnessed the participation of 26 government and private entities, and more than 5,000 participants from all segments of society, and the public satisfaction rate reached 91.7%.
In addition to organising a sports workshop during the month of Ramadan for arthritis patients, a workshop on common immune diseases and joint diseases, and a programme for schools that are friendly to arthritis patients, which witnessed the participation of 30 schools and the satisfaction rate reached 87.5%, as well as organising a number of awareness lectures that addressed a number of topics, including the psychological aspect and its relationship to joint diseases, how to take care of joints, ways to feed arthritis patients during the summer, psoriasis of the joints, travel instructions and first aid for rheumatism patients, and launching a group of innovative campaigns and programmes, including the Rheumatology Doctors Forum, and the Summer Without Fragility campaign that targeted a number of areas in the Emirate of Sharjah and witnessed the participation of 130 people, and launching the activities of World Arthritis Day and the Rheumatism Challenge.
The Friends of Diabetes Association revealed that it provided free medical examinations and more than 225,000 dirhams in financial support for patients, for more than 1,300 patients, in addition to organising a number of health initiatives and programmes, including the Diabetes Ambassadors Initiative, which came in cooperation with Al Qasimia University in Sharjah. The number of participating students reached 40 students and the satisfaction rate with the initiative was 97.75%.
The association also continued to organise its annual events during 2024, achieving remarkable successes, including the Superhero Campaign, in which the number of participating schools reached 36 schools and the total number of beneficiaries from private and public schools was 34,000 male and female students, and the overall satisfaction rate with the campaign reached 100%, while the Prevention and Coexistence Campaign, which is considered one of the most prominent activities of the association, witnessed the participation of more than 700 people.
The association also organised the Blue Circle event in solidarity and celebration of World Diabetes Day, which falls on November 14 of each year, and witnessed the holding of a sports festival in the sports complex for students at the University of Sharjah to raise awareness of the importance of exercising physical therapy for diabetes prevention, the number of participants reached 780 and the campaign satisfaction rate was 87%.
The achievements of the Breastfeeding Friends Association, which launched its new corporate identity in 2024 in celebration of the silver jubilee of its 25th anniversary, included providing more than 1,276 health consultations, while the number of beneficiaries of the breastfeeding supplies service reached about 350 mothers. In recognition of these achievements, the association received a certificate of appreciation for the fourth time from the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Support from the "WABA" organisation.
The association was keen to intensify its awareness efforts, whether by publishing health educational videos on its social media platforms and distributing awareness publications and prints, which numbered about 2002, or by launching initiatives and events, most notably the Breastfeeding Guides Programme, which witnessed the organisation of 74 awareness lectures, the Knowledge Support and Update Programme, and the Mothers' Forum, which witnessed 26 workshops and the number of beneficiaries reached 299, in addition to the Continuing Education Initiative, which included 14 workshops: the number of beneficiaries reached 291, in addition to the World Breastfeeding Week and the National Breastfeeding Week, which witnessed the organisation of a group of awareness workshops and the number of beneficiaries reached about 1979 people.
The association also enhanced its participation in exhibitions, festivals and health and social conferences, and the number of beneficiaries reached 461. In appreciation of the role of mothers, the association organised the seventh breastfeeding mother honouring ceremony, during which 40 breastfeeding mothers were honoured. Five hospitals and health centres also cooperated to organise a ceremony on the occasion of World Prematurity Day.
