Sharjah24: In a bold reinterpretation of a classic tale, Egyptian director Mahmoud Al-Husseini brings "Factory Macbeth" to life, showcasing the timeless relevance of Shakespeare's work in contemporary society. As part of the 15th edition of the Arab Theatre Festival, organised by the Arab Theatre Authority in Muscat, Oman, this innovative production joins a select group of 11 Arab performances vying for prestigious recognition at the festival.
In an interview with Sharjah 24, Al-Husseini explained that "Factory Macbeth," adapted from the renowned English writer William Shakespeare, explores the character of Macbeth in the modern era by incorporating technology and utilising artificial intelligence techniques to reimagine this classic play without falling into the trap of excessive technology. He noted that the performance is competing for the award of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi ,Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for the best Arab theatrical performance of 2025 at the Arab Theatre Festival in Muscat.
Al-Husseini added that the goal of the production is to present the moral lessons that Shakespeare conveyed in his original text, addressing themes of greed, murder, and unchecked ambition. He expressed pride that the performance originated from university theater in Egypt, progressed through the National Theatre Festival, then the Cairo Experimental Theatre Festival, and finally represents Egypt at this festival in Oman among a large number of theater practitioners from across the Arab world.
