Sharjah 24: Sharjah Children, affiliated with the Rubu' Qarn Foundation for Creating Leaders and Innovators, has successfully concluded its "Green It" environmental campaign.

Launched in September, the initiative aimed to promote environmental conservation, foster a sense of responsibility, and engage children aged 6 to 12 years at the Children's Center in Al Bataeh.

Activities and Workshops

The closing day of the campaign featured a range of hands-on workshops designed to educate and engage children in environmental practices. Activities included seed planting, creating nature-themed book dividers from dried leaves and flowers, making colorful pots, and crafting "Art in Wood Details" and "Colored Stones." The children also displayed their projects from the Recycling Challenge competition, which encouraged innovation using recyclable materials. The projects demonstrated the children's understanding of environmental concepts and their ability to apply them practically.

Recycling Challenge and Award Ceremony

At the event's conclusion, artist Ali Murad was honored for his role in evaluating the competing projects. The Recycling Challenge competition fostered creativity and environmental awareness, with the following results: The Kalba Child Center team won first place, the Dibba Al-Hisn Child Center team secured second place, and the Al-Hirah Child Center team came in third.

Educational Workshops and Field Trips

Since its launch, the "Green It" campaign has offered various educational workshops, including the "Organic Agriculture" workshop. This workshop allowed children to learn about the importance of organic fertilizers, soil health, and seasonal vegetable planting. A field trip to Al Noor Island in Sharjah included environmental storytelling, "Seashells" and "Gardening" workshops, and "Tales from Nature." The children also participated in the "Art of Recycling," creating recycled decorations for a farm.

Additionally, the children visited Hatta Village to explore beekeeping during the "Beekeeper" workshop. They toured the bee garden, learning about honeycombs and their types, and met Emirati beekeeper Mahra Al Naqbi, who shared her expertise in beekeeping.

Campaign Success and Impact

The "Green It" campaign successfully achieved its objectives of instilling cultural values around living in a healthy and clean environment. It educated children on the importance of environmental preservation and encouraged them to take practical steps towards sustainable development. The campaign collaborated with the Environment and Protected Areas Authority, the Department of Municipal Affairs, and the Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority to ensure its success.
