Sharjah24: Atalanta achieved a valuable 2-0 victory over host Roma in the 14th round of the Italian Serie A football league.
Atalanta raised their tally to 31 points in second place, just one point behind the league leaders Napoli.
Atalanta, who have been shining in Europe after recently dominating the Swiss Young Boys in the Champions League, surpass both Inter Milan and Fiorentina, who have 28 points each in third and fourth place respectively. Their match was suspended due to an incident involving Fiorentina's player Eduardo Bouff, who was taken to the hospital on Sunday. A new date for their match will be scheduled.
On the other hand, Roma's crisis continues in the competition as they remain at 13 points in 15th place, suffering their third consecutive defeat following losses to Bologna and Napoli.
Atalanta took the lead through Marten de Roon in the 69th minute with a shot from outside the penalty area finding the back of the net.
Former Roma player Nicolo Zaniolo, currently on loan from Galatasaray, scored the second goal for Atalanta in the 89th minute, capitalizing on a corner kick delivered by his teammate Juan Cuadrado, heading it into the goal.
