Sharjah 24 – AFP: Real Madrid secured a 2-0 win over Getafe on Sunday to move into second place in La Liga, with Kylian Mbappe finding the net.
Mbappe had been under scrutiny for his recent performances, but after Jude Bellingham converted a first-half penalty, the French striker doubled Madrid's lead with a well-placed strike. Despite missing three additional chances, including one in the second half, Madrid extended their winning run and closed to within one point of Barcelona, who lost to Las Palmas on Saturday.
The match saw Getafe attempt to slow the game, but their resistance was broken when Allan Nyom fouled Antonio Rudiger in the box, allowing Bellingham to open the scoring in the 30th minute. Mbappe’s goal came seven minutes later, curling a shot past Getafe goalkeeper David Soria for his eighth league goal of the season.
Ancelotti subbed Bellingham off at halftime due to an injury, and though Mbappe created more chances, Madrid could not add to their tally. Getafe came closest to scoring when John Patrick's powerful shot hit both the crossbar and post. Despite some missed opportunities, Madrid held on for the win and now sit one point behind Barcelona with a game in hand.
