Sharjah24: The Arabic Language Educational Center for the Gulf States (ALECGS) in Sharjah concluded its participation in the 14th Arabisation Conference held in Oman under the theme, “Utilising Scientific and Technical Terminology in Specialised Fields.” The event was organised by the Centre for Translation and Arabisation and Arabic Language Affairs under the GCC General Secretariat, in collaboration with the Coordination Bureau of Arabisation, part of the Arab League Educational, Cultural, and Scientific Organization (ALECSO).
The conference, which wrapped up earlier this week, featured numerous projects and scholarly discussions, including specialised glossaries in fields such as economics, accounting, and law. Panel discussions highlighted researchers’ experiences in applying scientific and technical terminology across various disciplines.
The 14th Arabisation Conference is a key periodic event aimed at advancing the Arabic language as a robust scientific and cultural tool capable of addressing modern challenges. It seeks to enhance the language's integration and scientific excellence both regionally and internationally.
Over two days, participants engaged in intensive discussions focused on unifying scientific and technical terminology across the Arab world and promoting its specialized use to develop Arabic scientific content and keep pace with rapid digital transformations.
Dr. Issa Al-Hammadi, Director of ALECGS, proposed a study titled “The Unified Reference Framework for Translation and Arabisation.” This comprehensive framework aims to guide policies and future plans in this field. Dr. Al-Hammadi emphasised that the framework aspires to set standards of excellence in translation and Arabisation by forming a specialised committee of experts from regional and Arab organisations to contribute their insights and expertise.
He further highlighted the importance of these efforts in elevating the status of Arabic as a source of knowledge and science, ensuring effective use of unified terminology in specialised fields. Dr. Al-Hammadi also stressed the necessity of enhancing cooperation among regional institutions to bolster the Arabic language as a cornerstone of cultural and civilisational identity.
