Sharjah24: The Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) participated with a delegation in the international conference titled "Climate Change and Natural Disasters in the Euro-Mediterranean Region: Security Impacts and Crisis Management," held in Rome, Italy, from November 19 to 21, 2024. This participation is part of the council's ongoing efforts to strengthen its role in addressing international environmental issues.
His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Consultative Council, was invited to speak at the conference, organised by the NATO Science for Peace and Security Programme in collaboration with the Med-Or Foundation and the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The conference brought together a distinguished group of experts, academics, and diplomats from over 15 countries. The conference also addressed several key issues, including strategies for managing environmental crises using advanced technologies such as satellites and data analysis, the importance of international collaboration to tackle environmental and security challenges in the Mediterranean region—particularly climate change and earthquakes—and the security impacts of natural disasters on communities and infrastructure. Discussions emphasised the need for proactive planning to mitigate these impacts.

Additionally, the Consultative Council delegation participated in panel discussions focusing on environmental security and the role of civil entities in enhancing effective disaster response. The participation of the Consultative Council underscored the UAE's leadership in addressing environmental crises and highlighted the importance of collective efforts to confront the challenges posed by climate change. The discussions emphasised the need to adopt modern technologies and stimulate scientific research to support crisis management strategies.

The conference concluded with recommendations focused on strengthening international cooperation in environmental innovation, developing proactive crisis management plans, and utilising modern technologies to address natural disasters. The event provided an ideal platform for exchanging ideas and experiences, thus enhancing global efforts to protect the environment and bolster regional and international security.
