Sharjah 24: His Excellency Ayman Othman Al Barout, Secretary-General of the Arab Parliament for the Child (APC), participated in the international conference on the role of the international community and civil society organisations in promoting the rights of the Palestinian child, held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, on November 20 and 21, 2024, and concluded on Wednesday.
The conference, which was organised by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in cooperation with the League of Arab States and international organisations, aimed to shed light on the suffering of Palestinian children under the Israeli occupation, and to enhance international and regional efforts to protect them.
The participants discussed multiple topics, including the violations against Palestinian children, the legal mechanisms to promote their rights, in addition to the economic and social challenges they face in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The participating delegation was headed by His Excellency Ayman Othman Al Barout, who praised in a statement the importance of the conference in supporting the rights of the Palestinian child, pointing out the importance of the Arab Parliament for Children's participation, which comes from its role in representing the voice of Arab children and discussing their issues, as this conference is an important platform to shed light on the violations against Palestinian children and work to enhance regional and international efforts to protect them.
Al Barout pointed out APC keenness as an entity affiliated with the Arab League to enhance cooperation with international institutions and civil society to raise awareness about childhood issues, especially in light of the difficult circumstances facing Palestinian children, as the recommendations and outcomes of the conference will be used by the parliament.
Al Barout explained that APC participation in this event is an important step that reflects its commitment to supporting the rights of Arab children and interacting with regional and international issues that affect their lives, and the parliament stresses the importance of continuing these efforts and working together to achieve a better future for Palestinian children.
The conference included several discussion panels, where live testimonies of Palestinian children who were subjected to serious injuries and violations, as well as the social and economic rights of Palestinian children, were reviewed.
The session discussed the challenges facing children in education, health, and daily life, and focused on enhancing cooperation between international and regional bodies to protect the rights of Palestinian children.
The conference concluded with the Amman Declaration, which stressed the need to enhance the role of the international community and civil society organisations in defending the rights of the Palestinian child, and supporting legal and media efforts to monitor and document violations.
