18 experts discuss submerged archaeology at World Coastal Forum

Sharjah24: Dr. Sabah Aboud Jassim, Adviser to the Sharjah Archaeology Authority, has announced the launch of the sixth edition of the World Coastal Forum under the theme “Coastal and Underwater Cultural Heritage – Challenges and Perspectives: Sharjah’s Coasts as a Model”, featuring 18 archaeology experts from across the globe.
This event will be held for the first time in West Asia, focussing on the theme, "Coastal and Underwater Cultural Heritage – Challenges and Perspectives: Sharjah’s Coasts as a Model. "

"The forum, hosted by the Sharjah Archaeology Authority in partnership with Khorfakkan University, spans two days, Saturday and Sunday, and features 18 archaeology experts from across the globe.

Dr. Sabah Aboud Jassim emphasised that the event will delve into significant discoveries in submerged cultural heritage, featuring insights from both international and regional experts. Previous excavations featured a Norwegian mission in Al-Fisht, Kalba, and Khorfakkan at the beginning of the millennium. This was succeeded by a Portuguese team that carried out studies in Khorfakkan and Sir Bu Nair Island, revealing possible remnants of trade ships.

Ongoing search for submerged artifacts

Dr. Jassim highlighted that research and analysis efforts are ongoing, with specialists set to present their findings regarding submerged heritage along the coasts of Sharjah. Experts are set to present lectures focused on the most recent underwater discoveries, highlighting hidden artefacts and shipwrecks located beneath the waters of Sharjah.
