Hosted by Razan Fahd Al Hammadi, Director of the Green Development Department at the Sharjah Department of Agriculture and Livestock, the session included Dr. Dina Abdul Nabi Al Khamis, WHO Public Health Specialist from the Kingdom of Bahrain; and Dr. Tamer Mohamed Shousha, Associate Professor in the Department of Physiotherapy at the University of Sharjah.
Razan Al Hammadi outlined Sharjah's food security initiatives that embody the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. These initiatives include the Mleiha Dairy Farm and the Mleiha Wheat Farm to ensure access to healthy food for all families and promote long-term public health.
Addressing prevalent misconceptions surrounding ageing, Dr. Tamer Mohamed Shousha noted that the Centre of Excellence for Healthy Ageing, established by the University of Sharjah, is the first of its kind in the UAE, dedicated to providing services that support elderly health, including awareness initiatives and training programmes.
He further stated that the centre focuses on delivering high-quality environments for education and research in the field, and is supporting key projects on cognitive conditions such as Alzheimer's, and more.
Dr. Dina Al Khamis shared the Bahraini experience in promoting healthy environments at universities through a specially designed programme created in partnership with Higher Education Council and the Ministry of Health to implement training courses aligned with the programme’s standards.
She outlined that the programme encompasses six key pillars: the establishment of committees and information centres, boosting campus environments, promoting healthy nutrition, public health improvement, emergency response strategies, and community partnerships.
The 10th edition of the My Health conference, held in strategic partnership with the University of Sharjah, has convened more than 36 prominent healthcare leaders, including doctors, nutritionists, and health experts, to deliberate the implications of modern technology and lifestyle choices for the physical and mental health of individuals and communities.
