Sharjah 24: During an interview with "Sharjah 24" at the Regional Data and Community Development Forum (RDCDF) in Sharjah, Alan Smithson, Co-Founder of Metaverse, provided valuable insights into the swiftly changing landscape of artificial intelligence (AI) and its vast potential.
“We are truly enthusiastic about AI, the metaverse, and the future of humanity,” stated Smithson. He underscored that the present condition of AI presents limitless opportunities because of its unregulated nature, while also stressing the necessity of adhering to societal standards. "This technology finds itself in a fascinating position; it remains unregulated, allowing for a wide range of possibilities. However, we must also navigate the constraints imposed by societal expectations."
Smithson posed important enquiries regarding society's readiness for the rapid advancement of AI, poised to transform algorithms and redefine industries. What steps can we take to equip governments to effectively manage AI while leveraging its potential for advancement? This question stands as one of the most crucial challenges facing our governments and society today.
In his panel discussion, Smithson emphasised the importance of transparency in the use of AI, especially as the technology increasingly obscures the distinction between reality and artificiality. To ensure that individuals recognize AI-generated content, like deepfakes or videos, as non-human creations, it is crucial to clearly label them. We find ourselves in a situation where differentiating between the two has become challenging, and this difficulty in discerning reality from illusion may result in failure if not properly addressed.
Smithson's comments convey a careful yet hopeful perspective on the future of AI, highlighting the importance of innovation alongside a sense of responsibility in overseeing the technology's development.
