Sharjah 24: Al Hamriyah Municipality celebrated the International Day of Older Persons, which falls on October 1 of each year, in cooperation with the Department of Social Services, Al Hamriyah Branch, with the participation of 25 women, in the Eastern District Park for Women, within the framework of Al Hamriyah Municipality's responsibility towards the elderly in Al Hamriyah community.
Female employees from Al Hamriyah Municipality, from different departments and sections, participated, on Tuesday, in organising the community event, which expressed the communication level between generations, appreciated the contributions of the elderly in various fields, and conducted workshops for handicrafts by women affiliated with the Department of Social Services, Al Hamriyah Branch.
The organisers of the annual initiative of Al Hamriyah Municipality conducted a number of events that varied between cultural, heritage and entertainment competitions, with which the participating women interacted, in addition to distributions and gifts that included all participants, with the aim of making them happy in a joyful atmosphere, bringing joy to their souls and integrating them into society.
His Excellency Mubarak Rashid Al Shamsi, Director of Al Hamriyah Municipality, stressed that the municipality's celebration comes in line with the wise leadership's directives to provide the best humanitarian services and enhance their comfort, pointing out that the International Day of Older Persons is a day of gratitude for what they have given of their lives in serving and raising the nation, and through their participation.
Al Shamsi added that the municipality's participation in this occasion aimed to communicate and interact with elderly women and to constantly improve the quality of life. He pointed out that Al Hamriyah Municipality continues its services to the elderly in light of obtaining the title of an age-friendly institution, by developing and upgrading its services provided to the elderly, and providing the finest services that work to enable them to access various municipal services, based on the interest of the Emirate of Sharjah, which has given care, attention and integration to the elderly and to achieve leadership in the field of serving this category, which is one of the main pillars of society.
Al Shamsi added that the municipality is keen in its programmes and events to involve the elderly, embodying the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, which has made the Emirate of Sharjah a positive environment for the elderly, instilling in their souls hope, giving and sustainable participation.
