Sharjah24: Experts and researchers specializing in Mauritanian heritage praised His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for his support of Mauritania—this year’s guest of honor at the 24th Sharjah International Narrator Forum. They consider this support to strengthen the bonds of love and brotherhood, enhance cultural and knowledge exchange, and contribute to the ongoing preservation of Arab sciences, culture, and heritage for future generations.
This was discussed during the opening session of the scientific program of the 24th Narrator Forum, organized by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH). Participants in the session included researchers Abdul Rahman Abno, Dr. Ahmed Mawloud Eid Al Hilal, and Dr. Sheikh Sidi Abdullah, with the session moderated by by Dr Mini Bounama, Director of the Content and Publishing Department at SIH. They spoke about preserving oral traditions within the Mauritanian Popular Culture Encyclopedia and the efforts invested in it.

Abdul Rahman Abno highlighted that the role of the Ruler of Sharjah (may God protect him) in supporting Mauritanian culture is not new. His contributions include the inauguration of the House of Poetry in Nouakchott in 2015, supporting poets and poetry, organizing the Nouakchott Arab Poetry Festival in 2016 as an extension of the Sharjah Youth Poetry Festival, and directing support for the establishment of the Arabic Language Council in Mauritania in 2017. This culminated in the opening of the council’s headquarters in 2019, serving as a resource for scholars and researchers.

This has elevated Emirati heritage from the local sphere to a prominent position among the world’s cultural heritages, earning admiration and praise for its significant role in supporting global heritage. They called for more institutional cooperation to achieve the best results and successes.

During the first session of the scientific program, titled "Birds Between Orality and Writing," His Excellency Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, participated alongside a group of experts. The session was moderated by researcher Dr. Hamad bin Saray.

Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Musallam, in his paper, stated: "Much heritage and its vocabulary are lost if not documented. The institute has enriched the national library with general heritage research and studies, and particularly in the field of bird-related cultural heritage. The institute has taken many steps to affirm the authenticity of heritage, starting from childhood, by organizing various events to introduce popular traditions and vocabulary. The institute firmly believes that holding onto cultural heritage is an essential and living part of preserving national identity."
