Abdullah bin Zayed chairs first MBZWI Council meeting

Sharjah 24 – WAM: Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Chairman of the Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative (MBZWI), chaired the first Council meeting of the Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative, which was held yesterday, Friday.
At the beginning of the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed conveyed the greetings of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to the Council members, wishing them continued success.

During the meeting, the Council members reviewed the Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative strategic framework comprising three key pillars, including accelerating innovation, raising awareness through global outreach, and empowering action.

The Council members discussed priority projects aligned with the Initiative’s strategic pillars, and addressing the Initiative’s mission to promote sustainable global access to water by supporting the development and application of breakthrough technologies, and by raising awareness of water scarcity and elevating its prioritisation on the global agenda.

The Council members also reviewed a number of approaches that aim to actively engage youth and partners in the UAE and globally on the topic of global water scarcity.

Addressing the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed underscored the importance of the Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative, launched in February 2024, and reviewed the progress of the XPRIZE Water Scarcity competition, while emphasising the importance of actively engaging in national and international efforts consistent with the UAE’s commitment towards addressing the urgent challenge of water scarcity.
