Sharjah 24: Al Thiqah Club for the Disabled concluded the activities of the fifth week of the summer activity programme, sponsored by Sharjah Sports Council (SSC), under the theme “Our Holiday is Different”, which was held during from July 1 to August 1.
The closing ceremony and honouring of the distinguished participants and the work team were attended by Kaltham Obaid Al Matroushi, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Thiqah Club for the Disabled; Maryam Ali Al Shehhi, Board Member and Head of the Social Committee; and Ahmed Salem Hamad Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of the Club.
The closing ceremony included honouring the distinguished players during the summer activity programmes, honouring the members of the organising committee of the programme and volunteers, and entertainment programmes and cultural competitions.
Kaltham Obaid Al Matroushi expressed her thanks and appreciation to SSC for its support and sponsorship of summer activities that contribute significantly to caring for young people, instilling the spirit of teamwork, and developing their intellectual and sports skills, stressing that the club’s management was keen for this year’s summer activity to be purposeful activities that refine the members’ personalities, help them to gain skills and experiences, and satisfy the members’ mental, physical, and social needs in a sound educational manner that contributes to building a positive personality capable of bearing responsibility to achieve the integration of club members into society through joint activities with their non-disabled peers.
It is worth noting that this year's summer activity included a range of entertainment, educational, religious, sports, cultural activities, trips, competitions, workshops and contests. The competitions were divided into five weeks. The first week is titled "Here is Sharjah" focusing on highlighting the Emirate's tourist attractions and museums and organising visits for members. The second week is titled "I am an Athlete" to encourage practicing sports and consider it a lifestyle and organise sports programmes on the sidelines of the programme. The third week is titled "National Identity" to further enhance members' sense of belonging to the love of the homeland and national heritage through workshops. The fourth week is titled "Sustainability" to emphasise the importance of sustainability and invest in the role of sports in introducing it to participants. The fifth week is titled "I am a Volunteer" to motivate participants to participate in volunteer programmes and volunteer teams in various events.
