Sharjah24: The Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority (SEWA) has been honoured with the Golden Shield for Excellence, recognising it as one of the top 20 active institutions in social responsibility by the Arab Council for Social Responsibility (ACSR). This award acknowledges the authority's leading role in launching initiatives that benefit various community groups, implementing community development practices, and promoting cultural values for the optimal use of energy and water. SEWA has introduced over 20 initiatives to raise awareness about correct consumption behaviours and community involvement.
Majid Al Shamsi, Director of the General Department of Institutional Support at SEWA, expressed the authority's pride in receiving this accolade. He noted that the award reflects SEWA's commitment to serving the community across all segments, highlighting its achievements and progress in various fields, which have earned the trust and satisfaction of its subscribers.
Al Shamsi explained that winning the award positively impacts institutional performance in line with best practices. SEWA will continue to develop its social responsibility programmes to meet the community's goals and aspirations.
Aisha Hussein Abdullah, Head of Strategy and Institutional Development, emphasised SEWA's efforts to broaden its social responsibility scope by utilising all available resources and encouraging employee participation in community development projects and initiatives.
She highlighted the authority's commitment to social responsibility through initiatives focused on sustainability and conservation of energy and water. These include programmes such as "Tersheedak Biyadak," "Khalak Waey," "Generation Conservation," "Hour of Conservation," "Clean Energy Pioneers," "Educate Them," plays, conservation camps, mosque conservation, home conservation, sustainability projects, and carbon footprint reduction.
Aisha added that several significant initiatives have contributed to SEWA's award, such as the scholarship programme in collaboration with the University of Sharjah and the American University, providing educational opportunities and financial relief to students and parents. Other initiatives aimed at easing subscriber burdens include discounts on blueprint approval fees, the "Labih" service with interactive screens for elderly and disabled customers, the "Let's Reach Them" initiative with the Sharjah Social Services Department, a 400 AED subsidy on water, electricity, and gas bills for Sharjah Social Assistance beneficiaries, and various other initiatives like "At Your Service," Muwaileh Smart Centre, car charging stations, and a smart platform for engineering and consultancy offices.
