Sharjah 24: As part of the programmes of Al Thiqah Club for Disabled for the fifth week of the summer activity "Our Holiday is Different", the club organised a visit for its members to the Diwani building owned by the Emirati designer Hisham Al Madhloum, the first building of its kind in the world as it reflects the art of Arabic calligraphy and contemporary architecture.
The visiting delegation from Alo Thiqah Club included Kaltham Obaid Al Matroushi, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Club; Maryam Ali Al Shehhi, Board Member and Head of the Social Committee; Ahmed Salem Hamad Al Mazloum Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of the Club; and a number of club members with disabilities. The guests toured the Diwani building, which includes more than 200 artworks of more than 85 calligraphers and artists, combining Arabic calligraphy and architecture.

The guests were received by the Emirati artist and designer Hisham Al Madhloum, who expressed his happiness at receiving the people of determination from Al Thiqah Club members and provided an explanation of the most important works and the most important international awards of the building.

Al Madhloum emphasised Arabic calligraphy creativity of the building and its connection to contemporary architecture, stemming from the interest and support of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in authentic Arab culture and preserving the cultural heritage of Arabic calligraphy.

Al Madhloum also explained that the “Diwani” building project is the first building in the world to be built in this form. The entire building was carefully studied to highlight an important aspect, which is the interdependence of the arts of architecture and calligraphy. Every detail in the building was taken into account.

For her part, Kaltham Obaid confirmed that the club’s management seeks, through its programmes in the summer activity “Our Holiday is Different”, to introduce members with disabilities to the Arab cultural heritage and to learn about the arts of calligraphy and authentic Arab architecture.

Obaid thanked the Emirati artist Hisham Al Madhloum for the warm reception and his readiness to cooperate with the club in presenting many artistic works that contribute to achieving the club’s visions and mission.
