Sharjah 24: Ismail Abdullah, Secretary General of the Arab Theatre Institute, welcomed Yi Yuping, President of the Scenography Institute in Yinchuan, China, and a delegation from the Shanghai Theatre Academy to the Institute's headquarters in Sharjah.
The meeting was attended by Ghannam Ghannam, Director of Training and School Theatre at the Arab Theatre Institute, as well as Naser Al Ali, General Manager.
Abdullah greeted Yi Yuping and his delegation, hailing the two institutes' long-standing partnership. This relationship has led to several cooperative initiatives, including the training of Arab scenographers and designers in China, as well as the introduction of Chinese trainers to the Arab region. Abdullah stated his desire for further collaboration in a variety of fields.
Yi Yuping expressed his exceptional delight and appreciation for the Arab Theatre Institute, recognising the significant accomplishments gained through their relationship and their willingness to expand it further.
The two parties addressed future training and qualification plans, with an emphasis on new technology and their role in theatre production. The Arab Theatre Festival will highlight high-level collaboration in this area. They also explored expanding training possibilities to encompass a variety of performance arts, appealing to both professionals and students. They sought to improve the Arab library by translating theatre-related works on technique and design.
The Yinchuan Scenography Institute nominated five Arab scenographers to participate in the Scenography Arts course this September, and Abdullah provided a file featuring them. During the workshop, Yi Yuping invited Abdullah to Yinchuan to explore new collaboration options, and he delivered a gift from a well-known Chinese calligrapher. Abdullah responded with a piece commemorating the opening of the Khor Fakkan Theatre.
The Chinese team visited the institute's facilities and digital library. Abdullah emphasised the fruitful seven-year relationship, introducing new programmes slated to debut in early 2025, which are consistent with the Institute's strategic goals to support Arab theatre throughout the Arab region.
