Sharjah24:The Sharjah Camel Racing Club organised a special event to commemorate World Camel Day for the first time in the UAE, held on Sunday, June 23. The celebration, held at the main venue, included honouring winners of the top positions in the weanling race competitions that took place in the morning session. Prize-winning camels were also recognised with a saffron mixture as a symbol of happiness and pride. Additionally, attendees enjoyed a documentary titled "Historic Camel Races and Cultural Heritage," produced by the Sharjah Camel Racing Club. The event featured a variety of traditional and musical performances by the Shawaheen Al Maqabeel group.
The event was attended by Sheikh Mohammed bin Mudhad Ali bin Huwaiden Al Ketbi, His Excellency Matar Ali bin Huwaiden Al Ketbi, Chairman of the Sharjah Camel Racing Club, His Excellency Rashid Al Muhayan Al Ketbi, Chairman of the Central Region Parents Council, His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Abdullah bin Huwaiden Al Kitbi, Chairman of the Municipal Council of Al Dhaid City, His Excellency Sultan bin Ali Al Khasouni Al Ketbi, Chairman of the Municipal Council of Mleiha City, His Excellency Saeed Rashid bin Fadel Al Ketbi, Director of Al Wusta Channel, His Excellency Musabeh Saeed Awadh, Director of Mleiha Municipality, His Excellency Salem Mohammed bin Huwaiden Al Ketbi, Chairman of Al Dhaid Cultural and Sports Club, His Excellency Mohammed Sultan Al Khasouni Al Ketbi, Chairman of Mleiha Cultural and Sports Club, and His Excellency Mohammed Obaid bin Matar Al Tunaiji, Director of the Agriculture and Animal Wealth Branch in the Central Region, in the presence of camel owners and residents of the Central Region.
Matar Ali bin Huwaiden Al Ketbi, Chairman of the Sharjah Camel Racing Club highlighted the club's commitment to observing World Camel Day, recognised globally on June 22 by the United Nations. He emphasised the international celebration of camels, focusing on their deep historical significance, advancements in medical care, food security, development of camel products, and awareness of their nutritional value. The club has aligned its activities and events throughout the year to coincide with this important day.
He underscored that the annual observance of World Camel Day serves as a global reminder of the importance of camels and their integral role in society. Mr. Al Ketbi encouraged all countries interested in camels, camel owners, and enthusiasts worldwide to utilise June 22 as an opportunity to promote comprehensive camel care culture.
The morning session featured competitions of the World Camel Day races held at the Al Dhaid Camel Racing Field, including 24 heats for weanlings, with specific categories for residents of Al Dhaid and various challenging and open heats, over a distance of 1500 meters.
