The initiative, launched in 2016 under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, seeks to eradicate illiteracy. Out of the 311 participants in the initiative, 72 older students from various educational levels attended the event.
Maryam Al-Qusayr, Director of Social Education at the department, handed certificates of gratitude and gifts to students aged 50 to 82 in recognition of their achievements in seeking an education.
Al-Qusayr stated that students come from various parts of Sharjah and attend non-formal education programmes that cover Arabic, Quran, mathematics, and social skills.
The Noble Quran and Sunnah Establishment provides Quran lessons, while specialists from the social education section teach other courses.
Classes take place in the Women's Union Association, with additional venues in Hamriyah, Central, and Eastern districts. The project prioritises Social Services Department beneficiaries, senior citizens, and citizen wives while also providing all essential educational materials and transportation.
