Sharjah24: With the aim of strengthening international collaboration in research and academics, the University of Sharjah (UoS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Global Studies University (GSU) which is currently constituted of the Africa Institute in Sharjah. The MoU was signed by His Excellency, Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the UoS, and by Prof. Salah M. Hassan, Chancellor of the Global Studies University and Dean of the Africa Institute.
During the MoU signing, the Chancellor of the University of Sharjah welcomed the Chancellor of Global Studies University and Dean of the Africa Institute, and the accompanying academic delegation, conveying the greetings of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah.
The UoS Chancellor emphasized the importance of the MoU, reflecting the University's keenness to enhance and activate cooperation with various academic and research institutions, thereby strengthening the University's standing as a leading academic institution in teaching, learning excellence, and fostering advancements in research.
For his part, the Chancellor of Global Studies University and Dean of the Africa Institute expressed his happiness over the signing of the MoU with the University of Sharjah, , a leading university in the Gulf and internationally, according to the international ranking, pointing out that this cooperation will open new horizons in the field of African and African diaspora studies, and scientific research, underscoring the UoS’s research infrastructure.
According to the agreement, the two universities will cooperate in the exchange of faculty members and researchers, promote joint supervision of Master’s and Ph.D. students, organize joint research activities, international workshops, conferences and seminars, establish joint/dual academic degrees, and conduct joint grants applications.
The MoU also stipulates that the joint cooperation between the two entities will focus on collaborating in E-learning programs, as well as training, teaching, learning and curriculum development, exchange of academic and scientific materials, and promote joint usage and access of library resources.
The MoU signning was attended by Prof. Youssef Al Haik, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Prof. Abdelaziz Soufyane، Director of Office of International Relations and a number of college deans.From the Global Studies University and the Africa Institute, the MoU was attended by Mr. Binyam Sisay Mendisu, Associate Dean, and Professor of African Languages and Linguistics, Mr. Grieve Chelwa, Associate Professor of Political Economy, Ms. Sara Majdi, Associate Director for Academic Affairs and Mr. Sataan Al Hassan, Associate Director for Administration and Operations.
