Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Charity International (SCI) reported that the housing assistance provided to its beneficiaries, during 2023, exceeded 12.3 million dirhams.
Housing assistance targeted 1,147 needy families whose requests were approved, which included those who were unable to pay residential rent arrears, in addition to the restoration, maintenance of homes, and homes on the verge of collapse.

Abdullah Sultan bin Khadim, Executive Director of SCI, said that housing assistance comes within the lump sum assistance programmes that aim to provide a decent life for needy families, in a way that ensures stability, family reunification, strengthening their cohesion and the bonds between society and families.

Bin Khadim explained that the housing assistance provided by SCI during the past year contributed to alleviating the burden of living on 1,073 families who were unable to meet the rental dues, whereas executive rulings were issued against them. The financial value of those rental arrears amounted to 10.7 million dirhams, while donors provided assistance for the maintenance and restoration of houses, at a cost of 1.5 million dirhams.

Bin Khadem stressed that SCI seeks, during the coming period, to achieve further improvement in providing maintenance and restoration assistance to the homes of needy families by launching the “Restoration” initiative, which is an independent initiative in itself, through which SCI will aim to expand the base of beneficiaries of assistance programmes for maintaining and restoring the homes of the poor, noting that SCI continues its charitable work that brings joy to the souls of the needy, and reflects the social cohesion and solidarity among Emirati society.

Bin Khadim continued by saying that SCI receives requests from customers throughout the week through its website, and upon request completion, field study procedures is initiated and a report is submitted to the competent committee to make its decision in terms of eligibility to obtain assistance or not, where auditors can communicate through the toll-free call centre number 80014 for all inquiries related to submitted or new aid requests.

Bin Khadim pointed out that providing the appropriate environment would enhance one's stability, which comes at the forefront of SCI endeavours towards launching programmes, thanking everyone who donated and contributed to achieving stability.
