Sharjah 24: Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) has contributed AED 5 million from its Zakat funds for the year 2023 to cover the tuition fees of students with disabilities at Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS).
This aligns with the bank's commitment to Islamic banking principles and is part of the joint cooperation agreement between Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services and Dubai Islamic Bank.

Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) Chairperson Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi expressed her deepest gratitude to Dubai Islamic Bank's Chairman and Board of Directors. Sheikha Jameela went on to say that the strategic partnership between SCHS and DIB is an example for the community, helping to educate people with disabilities in line with international best practices.

She emphasised that Dubai Islamic Bank's unwavering support for the city reflects the bank's strong belief in providing practical assistance to people with disabilities and society at large. She praised the long-term stability of this support, which dates back to 2011, as a result of Dubai Islamic Bank's religious and social obligations towards people with disabilities.

It has been the mission of the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, she explained, to advocate for the rights of people with disabilities since its inception in 1979. The organisation has also sought to educate the public about these issues, urging them to help those in need in whatever way they can and to contribute Zakat funds so that the centre can maintain its cutting-edge educational programmes.

In an effort to raise AED 12,107,750 to pay for the education of 537 children with disabilities who are qualified to receive zakat contributions according to Sharia standards, the city organises an annual campaign called "Your Zakat for Our Education" during the holy month.

The educational, rehabilitation, and training programmes offered by Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services to its students of diverse nationalities and disabilities have helped 1,993 persons with disabilities, according to Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi. These programmes are in line with the best and latest global practices.
