Al-Thiqah Championship: Triumph in Disabled Rapid Chess

Sharjah 24: The third Al-Thiqah Championship for Rapid Chess for the Disabled, co-hosted by Al-Thiqah Club for the Disabled and the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club, and overseen by the Sharjah Sports Council, came to a close on Monday. With 60 players in participation, the event featured representatives from Al-Thiqah Club for the Disabled, Khorfakkan Club for the Disabled, Dubai Club for People of Determination, Ajman Club for the Disabled, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, Abu Dhabi Club for People of Determination, and Himam Centre.
The opening ceremony and the course of the championship were attended by His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Khaled bin Humaid Al Qasimi, President of the Arab Federation and President of the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club, Tarim Matar Tarim, President of the UAE Chess Federation, Dr. Tariq Sultan bin Khadem, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Thiqah Club, Omar Nu'man Al Ali, Assistant General Secretary of the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club, and Ahmed Salem Hamad Al Mazloum, Executive Director of the Al Thiqah Club.

The results showed the victory of Al Thiqah Club in the championship, with its players occupying the top three positions, with player Mohammed Najmuddin taking first place, followed by Ahmed Hassan Ali in second place, and Walid Ali in third.

Following the conclusion of the final round of the championship, a closing ceremony was held for the distribution of prizes to the winners. His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Khaled bin Humaid Al Qasimi praised the efforts of Al Thiqah Club in promoting chess among its members with disabilities, stating that organising such a championship represents a new addition to the efforts of this distinguished club, driven by the aspirations of its management, members, and staff. He added that the success of the championship is the greatest evidence of the capabilities of people with disabilities, their ability to innovate and excel in all fields, especially chess. The championship has proven the presence of talented players from Al Thiqah Club and participating clubs, indicating strong competition until the last round with the participation of 60 players.

During the ceremony, Dr. Tariq Sultan bin Khadem, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Thiqah Club, emphasised that the success of the championship was the result of cooperation between Al Thiqah Club for the Disabled and the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club, stating that this championship is one of the strongest chess championships for the disabled at the UAE level. He expressed hope that through such cooperation, clubs across the country will continue to support our youth and encourage them to engage in fair competition in all fields, creating a new generation capable of facing future challenges.
