Sheikha Jameela invites the community and its institutions to lend their support to the annual "Zakat Campaign," a tradition since 1989 during the holy month. The campaign, themed "Your Zakat for Our Education," aims to provide AED 12,107,750 to cover tuition fees for 537 students with disabilities who qualify for Zakat funds based on Sharia regulations.
The foundation of the Zakat campaign by Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services rests upon the fatwa issued by the Permanent Fatwa Committee in the Emirate of Sharjah, guiding the collection, acceptance, and distribution of Zakat for individuals with disabilities. The specialised committee carefully assesses the economic and social situations of families with disabled members, accurately identifying those categorised as "needy" due to challenges in earning a living or meeting essential needs such as the high cost of education or medical treatment.
Sheikha Jameela underscores that education is a legitimate use of Zakat funds, ensuring family stability and providing a sustainable source of livelihood. The campaign's slogan, "Your Zakat for Our Education," reflects the city's unwavering commitment to humanitarian principles and goals.
Since its establishment in 1979, the city has been devoted to addressing the concerns of individuals with disabilities in its approach, mission, and vision. The city continues to raise awareness in society, urging support and assistance in various domains.
While the average cost of tuition fees for one student in the city is 30,000 dirhams during the academic year, the actual cost ranges between 20,000 and 80,000 dirhams, depending on the type of disability and required services. The city remains dedicated to fulfilling its commitment to providing education, rehabilitation, guidance, and family support for all.
Sheikha Jameela expresses profound gratitude to the Sharjah government, partners, sponsors, and supporters of the Zakat campaign, including entities such as the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sharjah Islamic Bank, Dubai Islamic Bank, Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority, Investment Bank, Jibca Group of Companies, Nazo Trading Company, Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority, Site Global Company, and Rimal International Advertising.
