Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Women's Sports (SWS) has launched ‘The Scientific Centre of Research and Sport Development,’ outfitted with the latest systems and equipment for evaluating performance, offering female athletes a solid foundation grounded in rigorous research and studies aimed at enhancing skills and ensuring the upkeep of physical and mental well-being.
The centre boasts a team of experts and specialists in diverse sports disciplines such as physiology, nutrition, sports statistics study, and psychology, among others, who are dedicated to advancing sports and catering to female athletes' needs.

The announcement was made at the international conference, 'Excel: Women’s Sports in Sharjah… From Aspiration to Professionalism,' held at the University of Sharjah on Wednesday under the title 'The First International Conference on Women's Sports Medicine and Sciences: A Future Vision for Establishment, Development, and Achievement,' coinciding with the ongoing 7th edition of the Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST 2024), marking a pivotal moment for women's sports development."

Goals that meet women sports ambitions
The centre is dedicated to establishing standards for identifying talent across all sporting disciplines through comprehensive physical and physiological assessments. These evaluations aim to pinpoint the strengths and weaknesses of SWS athletes, thereby identifying sportswomen of outstanding potential and directing them towards specialised training from a young age. Additionally, the centre is committed to creating an extensive database encompassing all athletes, alongside rigorous scientific research to enhance sports performance. Furthermore, the centre endeavours to establish collaborations with both local and international research bodies, promoting the exchange of knowledge, elevating the expertise of the centre’s cadre.

A Milestone for the Development of Women's Sports
Hanan Al Mahmoud, Vice Chairperson of SWS and Vice Chairman of AWST 2024 Higher Steering Committee, stressed that the centre is in full alignment with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and the directives of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness The Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of SWS. Al Mahmoud emphasised that the initiative represents a strategic investment in the rich legacy of achievements SWS has cultivated through its daily programs and activities and hosting AWST.

She said: “The centre is tasked with closely monitoring SWS athletes to assess their performance, potential, and needs comprehensively. A key objective is the standardisation of criteria and benchmarks for identifying exceptionally talented players at an early stage. This involves providing tailored recommendations to safeguard their well-being and foster their professional growth in sports. Such efforts will encompass detailed physical and physiological evaluations to discern the athletes' strengths and weaknesses, alongside undertaking scientific research and establishing collaborations with research institutions locally and globally to facilitate a vibrant exchange of knowledge and expertise.”

Furthermore, she expressed her aspiration for the proliferation of similar initiatives across the sports sector, particularly within women's sports throughout the Arab world. She concluded: “The athletes who partake in sports competitions are invaluable treasures, representing the most precious and sustainable wealth we possess.”

Conducting Studies and Participation in International Conferences
The centre undertakes a pivotal role in conducting comprehensive scientific studies and research, actively participating in international seminars and conferences focused on sports sciences. Its primary aim is to showcase SWS’s scientific contributions, ensuring it remains at the forefront of the latest developments in scientific research. Additionally, the centre is dedicated to organising workshops to elevate awareness and promote adopting best practices for achieving optimal sports performance.
