Sharjah 24: Kuwait's Salwa Alsabah SC broke its tie with Sharjah Women's Sports Club and climbed to the top of Group B in the volleyball competition at the ongoing 7th edition of the Arab Women Sports Tournament. This came after the Kuwaiti team's victory over the Emirati team with three sets to none in a match on Tuesday at Khorfakkan Club.
The same group also witnessed a comeback from Jordan's De La Salle Jordanian with their victory over Syria's Taldara SC (3-0), compensating for their loss in the opening round against Salwa Alsabah SC. The superiority of the Kuwaiti team was evident over the Sharjah club. The Kuwaiti team dominated the three sets of the match with scores of (25-13, 25-23, and 25-16).
In a similar scenario, Jordan's De La Salle had no difficulty securing their well-deserved victory over the Syrian team after imposing their dominance over the courts with three sets: 25-17, 25-13 and 25-20.
Thursday's schedule
AWST 2024 volleyball tournament will continue on Thursday, with four matches split evenly between Groups A and B. This arrangement ensures fairness and competitiveness in the decisive phase and the final round of the group stage, which will determine the final ranking of each group and map out the quarter-final matchups.
The matches on Thursday will feature Syria's Taldara SC against Kuwaiti Salwa Alsabah SC. At the same time, Jordanian De La Salle will play against Sharjah Women Sports club in Group B. Egypt's Sporting will face Iraqi Akkad Ankawa SC. In contrast, Lebanon's Byblos Volleyball Club will play against UAE's Fatima bint Mubarak Academy.
The tournament regulations conclude the group stage with all eight teams advancing to the quarter-finals, which start on Friday. The group leaders will then face the fourth-placed teams from the opposite group, while the runners-up will compete against the third-placed teams from the other group.
