Sharjah Para Athletics Gala Unleashes Emirati Triumph

Sharjah24: Under the auspices of Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, the 12th edition of the Sharjah International Para Athletics Meeting commenced yesterday at Al-Thiqah Club for the Disabled grounds. It featured the participation of 291 athletes representing 38 nations.
The initial day showcased an outstanding performance by the Emirati teams. Khorfakkan Club for the Disabled secured six medals, including two gold, two silver, and two bronze. Meanwhile, Al-Thiqah Club for the Disabled earned four medals, with two gold and two bronze, and Dubai Club for People of Determination claimed two medals – one gold and one bronze.

Iraq achieved a notable total of 11 medals, comprising four gold, three silver, and four bronze. Kuwait secured seven medals, including three gold, two silver, and two bronze, while Germany won four medals, consisting of three gold and one bronze.

Swiss athlete Catherine Debrunner set a new world record in the women's 800m race with a time of 1:37.96 minutes. Tunisian athlete Mohamed Nadal Al-Khalifi established an African record in the men's 100m race with a time of 15.34 seconds.

Dr. Tariq Sultan bin Khadem, the Chairman of the Organising Committee, expressed gratitude for the unwavering support from the wise leadership. He emphasised Sharjah's success in hosting global and regional championships, highlighting how such events elevate athletes' capabilities and international standing by competing with talents from across the globe.

Abdul Rahim Al Sheikh, president of the Saudi Athletics Paralympic, and Vice President of the Asian Paralympic Committee, commended the significant achievements of the event. He expressed pride in the impressive championships hosted in Sharjah, acknowledging the tremendous efforts of the organising team.
