Sharjah24: The 12th Sharjah International Para Athletics Forum commenced on Sunday, February 4th, under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. The event is organised by Al Thiqah Club for Disabled and is scheduled to continue until February 6th.
A total of 291 athletes, representing 38 countries, participate in the Forum. The UAE is proudly represented by a diverse team of 64 talented athletes, including 20 females and 44 males.

Dr. Tariq Sultan bin Khadem conveyed his sincere appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for his unwavering support to people with disabilities. He also expressed his gratitude to Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, for generously sponsoring this important sports event. Dr. bin Khadem recognised the significant contribution of Al Thiqah in promoting the inclusion of individuals with disabilities in society, resulting in a notable advancement in para sports.

According to Dr. Tariq, the meeting has consistently demonstrated remarkable progress in all areas, year after year. He emphasised Sharjah's impressive record of success in becoming a prominent destination for organising and hosting major sports events, particularly in para sports. He commended the distinguished infrastructure and facilities provided by Sharjah at the highest global standards in the field of disability sports.

In addition, Dr. Tariq conveyed his appreciation to the event sponsors, highlighting the significance of support from governmental and community organisations for the club's activities and programmes. He highlighted the crucial role of the media in drawing attention to the event and highlighting the efforts of all state agencies in providing support and care for individuals with disabilities.

Ahmed Salim Al Mazloum, the Executive Director of the Trust Club for the Disabled, has confirmed that the upcoming meeting will see the implementation of the new regulations set by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). The regulations encompass the incorporation of categories and point calculation, as well as recognising the top three positions in every competition.

In addition, the meeting will showcase a range of heritage and community programmes aimed at introducing the Emirate of Sharjah and its significant cultural influence worldwide.
