The workshop will be held for insulin-dependent members with the participation of nutritionists Aman Al Halawani and Maryam Dabbous, and with the participation of diabetes educator, Samia Hassan from the Diabetes and Pediatric Endocrinology Unit at Al Qasimi Hospital for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Pediatrics, under the supervision of Dr. Elham Al Amiri, Vice President of the Friends of Diabetes Society.
Her Excellency Khawla Al Hajj, President of the Friends of Diabetes Society, said that such workshops are of valuable benefit and have great importance for educating the society’s members in particular and patients and their families in general. The society is keen to hold such workshops periodically with the aim of preventing and managing diabetes.
The workshop aims to introduce the importance and effectiveness of counting carbohydrates for diabetics who depend on insulin in regulating blood sugar and preventing diabetes complications, and the sources of energy for the human body, especially since carbohydrates are the main source of energy. The workshop will explain the food groups and the method of calculating carbohydrates in different types of food.
A section will also be presented about a new, modern pump that recently introduced to the UAE and will be installed on diabetic patients.
