Sharjah24: The Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority (SEWA), has recently announced the approval of a new initiative that will benefit 2,000 homes in the Emirate of Sharjah. This initiative was implemented as per the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
The aim is to provide modern electricity and water-saving technologies to homes, with a budget of 20 million dirhams, and in accordance with consumption studies.

More than 30,000 water conservation devices and over 80,000 electricity monitoring devices are set to be installed in the approved homes.

Commenting on this, Rashid Al Marzouqi, Assistant Director of the Conservation Department, highlighted the significance of installing conservation devices and tools in 2,000 new homes in the Emirate of Sharjah. This initiative will benefit a total of approximately 6,000 homes. This expansion is a crucial step in the Authority's efforts to lower waste rates, protect the environment, and reduce the cost of bills.

He added that the installation of the monitoring devices and tools in the approved homes will begin in the city of Sharjah, Khorfakkan, Kalba, and the Central Region starting from November 2023.

He has further pointed out that the initiative encompasses the implementation of measures to conserve water and lighting, both indoors and outdoors. These measures have the potential to significantly reduce consumption by 40% to 50%. He added,” Our latest updates cover the implementation of energy-saving sensors and timers, ensuring that all devices meet the requirements set by the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology.”

The initiative also includes coordinating a range of events aimed at educating homeowners on effective practises and implementing strategies to maximise energy and water usage.   It focuses on different sectors of the community, particularly those involved in the Sharjah Social Services Department.

According to him, the initial stage of the project involved equipping 3,915 family units with water conservation features, which has now been successfully finished. In the second phase, a visit was conducted to the Emirate of Sharjah where modern energy-saving devices were installed in 3,915 homes. Installation has been successfully completed in 3,263 homes, which accounts for an impressive 83% of the targeted homes in the cities of Sharjah, Khorfakkan, Kalba, and the central region.
