Sharjah24: Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) , Al Hamriyah Independent Power Plant Company (SHIPCO ), and General Electric Vernova (listed on the New York Stock Exchange with the symbol GE) announced the start of commercial operation of all three turbines at Al Hamriyah Independent Electric Power Plant.

This combined cycle station is currently the most efficient gas-powered electricity generation station in the Middle East and Africa region, as it helps reduce the carbon intensity of the energy generated in Sharjah.

By providing a significantly higher level of efficiency compared to previous power generation assets installed in the emirate, the three GE Vernova 9HA.01 turbines are expected to help Sharjah Electricity generate an additional 1.8 gigawatts of power, while reducing carbon emissions. At a rate of up to 4 million tons annually compared to generating the same amount of electricity using traditional technologies, which is equivalent to removing one million cars from the roads of the UAE.

GE's gas power unit, Vernova, provided the major engineering, construction and procurement work, and equipped the plant with three 9HA.01 gas turbines, powering three H84 generators, and three STF-D650 steam turbines, powering three A74 generators. and three heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs). The company will also provide spare parts, repair and maintenance services for the project's power generation assets for approximately 25 years.

In this context, His Excellency Saeed Sultan Baljiu Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority, said: “The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority is committed to meeting Sharjah’s growing needs for reliable and sustainable energy at affordable prices, and supporting the UAE’s endeavors to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. The Al Hamriyah station is considered Independent electric power generation is an integral part of DEWA’s 2030 roadmap, and falls within the framework of our strategy to supply the Sharjah network with energy with a lower carbon footprint. We are pleased to cooperate with leading institutions in the sector such as Shipco, General Electric, and Vernova in this vital project, which we expect will contribute in generating up to 40% of Sharjah’s electricity needs.”
For his part, Omar Al-Mulla, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Shipco, said: “The operation of all three turbines at Al Hamriyah Independent Power Plant was the result of more than 11 million hours of work by more than 1,500 people from more than 20 countries working for the Electricity and Water Authority.” "Sharjah Gas, Shipco, GE Vernova and other interested parties. Together, we are committed to increasing the production capacity of electrical energy in the UAE in parallel with reducing carbon emissions of generation operations to help address global climate challenges and support the growth path."
