“Sharjah Women” excel in “UAE Chess” championship

Sharjah 24: The players of Chess and Culture Club for Sharjah Women made a new achievement, added to the club’s record at the local level. Ohoud Issa, the club’s player, won first place and the gold medal in the female category under 20 years, in the UAE Individual Chess Championship, scoring 6.5 points in 7 rounds; and Anoud Issa achieved second place and the silver medal in the women’s category, after scoring “7.5 points” in 9 rounds.
A number of the club’s female players also reached distinguished positions, including Abrar Al Mazmi, who achieved third place with 5 points, and came in fifth place by breaking a tie, and Maryam Al Muaini achieved sixth position with 4 points, in addition to the distinguished performance of a number of female players.

Najla Al Shamsi, Chairman of the Club’s Board of Directors, expressed her happiness about the club’s players achievement in the UAE Individual Championship, and being in the lead in the women’s and female under 20 categories.  Al Shamsi said that the achievement is the result of great work, whether from the Club’s Board of Directors, the club’s technical and administrative bodies, and the support of parents. 

Al Shamsi added that winning local championships motivates female players to make more achievements.

Najla Al Shamsi stated that winning medals and leading championships represents a great responsibility not only for the players, but also for the technical staff and the club’s management in order to continue progress, not only at the local level but also in international tournaments. 

Najla Al Shamsi concluded that the higher goal is supporting the national teams, whereas clubs represent the main source of the national teams.
