Sharjah 24: The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure is working on the Khorfakkan Road intersection project with Al Barashi Tunnel, and a lot has been accomplished in the project, as the tunnel will include 6 lanes with the elimination of roundabouts, and the project will be completed in the last quarter of 2023.
Engineer Ahmed Al Hosani, Head of the Project Implementation Department in the Western Region at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, said that the intersection of Khorfakkan Road with Al Barashi area tunnel in Sharjah, at first, consisted of two lanes and a roundabout. Al Barashi Tunnel had one lane in each direction, and there is a roundabout to exit to Emirates Road or enter the tunnel, and the streets and tunnel have been treated in a way that serves users and is considered more smooth and fast.

He stated that the ministry is working to expand Al Barashi tunnel, increase the number of streets and cancel roundabouts, where the street from Khorfakkan Road near the tunnel have now 3 lanes with the cancellation of the first roundabouts. In addition to expanding the tunnel to include 3 lanes in each direction, for a total of 6 lanes, and canceling the second roundabouts in Al Barashi area for smooth flow, announcing the completion of the project in the last quarter of 2023.

He added that entry to Khorfakkan Road will be passable without stopping on Emirates Road. In addition the entrance to Khorfakkan Road for those coming from Sharjah will be after Al Dhaid Road Bridge. While for those coming from Dubai, the entrance to Khorfakkan Road will be via the side street adjacent to Tilal City. There is also a return road for those coming from Dubai.

He pointed out that there are basins for rainwater at both ends to avoid water accumulation in the streets and the tunnel, which is one of the causes of obstruction of traffic in rainy weather.
