The first scientific forum was held over two days at Wasit Youth Centre, in Sharjah affiliated with the he Rubu' Qarn Foundation for Creating future Leaders and Innovators, with the participation of experts and consultants in education and human development. Almuntada discussed a number of cultural topics related to the treatment of internet addiction.
Prof. Dr. Bushra Ahmed, Head of the Education Department at the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Sharjah, discussed two main topics. The first topic tackled the “information chaos: concept and impact”, which partially helps educators to handle and develop the information chaos, while employ and understand it, and even anticipate it at times. The second topic touched on the impact of new means of communication in bringing about a change in the lifestyles and culture of individuals of all ages, the new generations in particular.
On the second day, the forum discussed “Means of eliminating distraction in the digital world”. Mr. Hussein Al Hammadi, Consultant in Human Development and Institutional Development, tackled the topic and pointed out that recent studies have linked the frequent use of social media with distraction and distancing from the reality of social life.
Dr. Michael Youssef Awad, psychiatrist at the National Rehabilitation Centre, concluded the session, discussing how to address the withdrawal effects of internet addiction, through behavioural and psychotherapy programmes.
